Are you thinking of competing in the UK Series 2013? Want to know more about what happened at last years competitions? Let’s a take a look…

The International Series 2013 had four events spread over the second wettest summer on record. That’s four BoarderX, four freestyle, and then we also had the three Downhill Series comps too. So, whatever kind of riding you’re the comps have something for you, and if you’re not into competing they are just a great laugh with a bunch of great mountainboarders. So, what happened at the comps…

Boarder racing

Boarder is four-man racing on specially built courses (but you probably knew that). We do it on Saturdays as it gives us more time. Some of the BoarderX highlights from last years were the Pro’s having some really close racing at Round 1 and the Juniors racing as fast as the Pro’s at Round 3. We also had loads Grom’s competing, which is fantastic.

If you want to have a go at BoarderX, all you really need is to be able to get down the track safely in one go. There is no pressure, and your qualifying races will be against riders of similar ability before you compete in your category, so you’ll get some practice.

Freestyle

Sunday’s are usually a bit more chilled, which is when we do freestyle comps. Last years comp saw some fantastic progression with loads more riders pulling out tricks like backflips and frontflips.

Although riders compete in their categories, the actually comp uses a Jam format, which means you can have have as few or as many runs as you like. Tricks range from simple grabs to three-sixties to front flips, so whatever you’re level of riding you’ll have fun.

Downhill

Last year was the first year we had a proper series of Downhill comps. Downhill comps are one-man descents against the clock, with the fastest time in each category winning. Last year’s comps were held on service tracks in England, Wales and Scotland, which gave everyone a taste of going fast.

This year, the Downhill comps are going to be a bit different. We’re going into the woods with tracks in Hampshire, Oxfordshire, riding a mountainbike track in Wales, and a mountain in Scotland. All these different types of tracks means there is something for everyone.

So, whatever kind of mountainboarding you’re into the comps are loads of fun and if you’re thinking about competing next year, you should definitely do it!
