Becoming an ATBA-UK Mountainboard Instructor
The ATBA-UK approved Mountainboard Instructor course is only available from the ATBA-UK. It aims to train confident and competent mountainboard instructors who deliver safe and fun mountainboard sessions.
Who is the course for?
The ATBA-UK Mountainboard Instructor course is for anyone who wants to teach beginners the basic skills of riding a mountainboard on a grass slope. It’s perfect for Activity Centre staff who deliver mountainboarding along with other activities, Mountainboard Centre staff who deliver dedicated mountainboarding sessions, and anyone who runs a mountainboard club and wants to help new clubs members improve there riding skills.

What does the course cover?
The course is taught in modules to allow a different focus to be offered depending on the strengths of the instructors. The course will cover:
- Roles and responsibilities of an Instructor.
- Policies and procedures.
- Communicating with people.
- Learning styles and teaching methods.
- Planning, conducting and evaluating a session.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Basic riding techniques.
How long does the course take?
The course is normally run in one day, with a classroom session in the morning and a riding and teaching session in the afternoon. If you aren’t a confident mountainboarder, the course can be extended to two days with the first day spent getting your riding skills up to a level sufficient for you to teach the basics to others.
How much does it cost?
The one day instructor course normally costs on average approximately £100 per person, which includes £25 Instructor Membership for one year. Costings are worked out on number of instructions per day and location basis to allow cover of travel costs etc. After passing the course the instructor needs to renew their membership to annually and renew the course every five years.
What do I need to become an Instructor?
- Basic mountainboarding skills. You don’t need to be fantastic mountainboarder in order to be a really good instructor, you just need to have a basic level of riding skill.
- To be over 18 years of age.
- Other sports instructing experience will help but isn’t necessary.
